OK, name the craziest piece of sushi or sushi dish you think everyone has had?

I can just about guarantee I have had some things that only the avid Japanese person may have.

Here's one Yamakaki(sp?) done japanese style. Not even close to being the same american style...

Yamakaki = japanese mountain potato grated (think elmer's glue) with quail egg and maguro. served sometimes with a bowl of steamed rice.

I think some things should be barred from the exotic list including:
- deer (venison)
- rabbit
- frogs legs
- snails
- sushi/sashimi
- Kangaroo/wallaby/crocodile if you're an Aussie.

Most all you can eat places don't offer top of the line stuff or they are very limited in what you can get. I very rarely order off the menu, about the only time I do it's because I want soft shell crab appatiser or hamachi coma (broiled yellow tail tuna jaw). Maybe we should start a sushi thread

Although I don't consider it exotic anymore, I went to a sushi restaurant in Kansas City just to be able to say I've had sushi. I was thoroughly unimpressed. It was rather tasteless, and overwhelmed by the taste of ginger. Insanely expensive too. Never again.

We got something like a larvae lollipop. it's a tequila flavored lollipop with a tequila worm in the center. I haven't had one, but I'm not a fan of tequila either.

The Ostrich Balut was big from what we saw, but we didn't have it. We saw another person eating it and it didn't look like it had feathers. It looked like it was a frappe with a lot of garnish.

You could say I'm not especially planning to be on Survivor any time soon...and though I might be curious as to what dog food might taste like, well I don't really need to know that bad to go as far as to try some :P


I've eaten some vegetarian/vegan stuff and I like common seafood such as crab, lobster, clams, shrimp, sardines, tuna, salmon and various fish.

Actually,they were quite good. I first tried them on a trek in the mountains near the Thai-Myramar border. The guides were eating them. They taste just like bacon when fried in a little oil & salt. I then proceded to make an egg & grub sandwich. By far, not the grossest thing I've eaten :P
