  1. Has anyone done any tests or anywhere to find out how the new dual layer format is working on standalone dvd players (for movies, concerts, etc).

I am just wondering if a lot of the standalone players out there now are recognizing these discs and playing them without problems.

Any help or direction would be great.

    Thanks.

I propose that someone that has a dl disc and has already used it to verify as many dvd players as they can that they mail it off to someone..like me so I can test it in my/mom's/ brothers 6 dvd players. Once verified in these I could send it off to the next person to check their players and so on.

Just a thought. If anyone wants to try this and has a d/l disc for me to check out, then PM me.

  3. yeah, I think someone already did some & posted a topic. I think 40% could play it but that would depend on what manf you used of your media.

  4. 40%? Possibly using +R DL book type and including reading tests on lot of recorders. Using DVD-ROM book type the tests I've seen looks much better, I'd say more like 80%. Here is a test summarized that was performed by a German magazine. DVD+R DL worked on 21 out of 23 standalone DVD players when using DVD-ROM book type. Also 11 out of 13 standalone recorders played the disc with DVD-ROM book type while 0 (!) standalone recorders played the disc with +R DL book type.

  5. Yeah, I wouldn't mind someone making me a +DL disk (hell I'd even pay for it) to test a bunch of players w/. Will any current rip/burn softwares use the default layer break from the original when burning?

Maybe send it to someone who's a BB or CC employee and let them try every model in the store. :P
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

  8. I've tested a DL copy of a movie I own in three different standalones (sorry, I don't have all the models and model numbers handy at the moment) and it plays perfectly. I realize that this doesn't give you much information at this moment, but it does bode well for DVD+R DL.
