I've found the best way to get my analogue footage copied is via my standalone recordable DVD Player, doing it via the PC gives awful results despite having an XP3200.

Once I have the DVD I want to open it in Windows Movie Maker to add transitions etc. WMM won't open the .vob file though, neither will clone DVD, Virtual Dub will open the file but playing back the preview screen shows awful lines & a blocky image, even though I'm not choosing any compression, When I do a small smaple it's awful.

TMPGenc will open the file when I change the extension from .vob to .mpg but will then promptly crash.

Does anyone know how I can get this vob file into a position to edit it normally. The same goes for films I record on the DVD, I can't edit anything down. It's a Yamada DVD Recordable if anyone has experianced the same troubles?

    Thanks for any help.

use DVDdecrypter in file mode. enable stream processing and demux your video and audio streams. edit to your hearts content.
