2 questions...
First, when someone has a fever, when should he consider going to the doctor? (I ask because I have a temp of 38 degrees celcius...and feel like crap) I haven't had a fever in ages.
Second, how is it that a thermometer can acuratly take your body temp from your mouth, arm pit and ass??

Well that is slightly over 100 degrees F. so you dont need to go yet. and you dont get accurate measurements from the armpit you have to add a few degrees to it, I have kids.. you learn these things

Yep, the most acurate is unfortunately....rectally. The new ear thermometers are pretty good though, and fast. Ours is stuck on C, and we can't get it back to F, so I wrote a small web service that my wife uses for the conversion when she needs to.
For an adult, I wouldn't worry until about 103 (you do the math). -

I would start getting concerned when it gets to 102.5F. -
Thanks...well, hope the meds work. I don't mind being sick, it happens. If I have a cold, I can deal with it...but having a fever, I feel weak, and when I feel weak I get scared!! IT SUCKS

Ummm, the normal and high are different for everybody. The generaly excepted norm is 98.6F / 37C. My normal temp is 96.9F and if I get to 100F there is something wrong! I always tell doctors and nurses my normal temp before they take my current temp...When I'm sick, I know I'm sick. I don't want a doctor or a nurse tellying me that I'm not becuase my temp isn't high enough to them.

Most digital thermometers are calibrated so they give an accurate temperature orally.
But should you take a temp axially (armpit) then you must add .9 degrees F. Anally you must subtract .9 degrees F. -
The ear therms. are really great, but you have to make sure they are in correctly and that there is no open gaps. It's very quick and fairly accurate. The mouth is a bit slower, but is very accurate. It's slow because it's meant to expell heat. Rectal, is the best for core temperature. It tends to be a bit warmer in the clostial oven. Usually the time to see the doctor is if your fever hits about 103F. Or if you've been above 101F for more than 8-12hrs. consecutively. Try taking anti-inflamatories at 1/2 dose and fever reducers at regular dose and it should help you feel a little better. My wife works for a health insurance company and that's what the doctors always say knocks out fevers the best.

Update!! With the help of some strong (legal in Canada but who knows about Japan) meds...my temp has gone down to 36.8
Now lets see where the lady hide my beer!!SmileSmile

If she hid it in a cupboard outside of the fridge, you're best going to the store and getting a cold one. Unless you're german, then you might like warm beer, but nobody's perfect. :P
