  1. I have been using DVDShrink to create an 4.7GB ISO image of a dual layer DVD. I have used the default setting of 4.7 under the size part of DVDShrink. The slider showing the size of the image before ripping shows 4,463 MB, once ripped it shows as 4,592,036 KB and when i import the image to nero it shows up as 4,485 MB. The blank DVD+Rs i have are Mirror Platinum DVD+R 4,483 MB.

As a result of this the ISO won't fit onto a DVD-R

Any ideas where this extra 22MB is coming from?

If I use DVD-Shrink to do the whole process it fails saying the DVD+R does not have the space needed.

enable deep analysis, and set project size a few meg smaller. Shrink isn't perfect with it's claculations.

What you should do is then set the compression to manual and adjust the final file size down so its 25 mb less than what dvdshrink auto setting will give you.

  4. An ISO is a descriptive file telling a burning application how to produce a disc - it will be bigger than just the files on their own that comprise it because it contains additional information.

If it won't fit on a disc, best write it as a regular disc instead of putting it on a DVD-ROM compilation, which in itself probably "wastes" a small amount of storage as the error correction mechanisms differ.

An ISO file is larger than the actual amount of CD/DVD space it represents, just like a WAV file is larger than the raw audio it represents, and an MPG file is larger than the VideoCD it represents.

  6. I have tried changing the size of the disc to 30MB smaller but it now just says that the size of the selection is still 4,463 MB showing a bit of red to say too large to fit.

I have tried setting compression to manual and adjusting it, but it will only allow me to make the compression less not more i.e. it defaults to 52.1 but it won't allow me to go any further i.e. 51.5

I see what you are saying about the ISO being larger than a DVD which understandable but that makes even less sense, can't see any reason why it should not fit onto a DVD then as its only 1MB larger than a DVD including all the ISO setup info.

ahh, you have a red line!!

Shrink your project, then shrink the output again, this should get you down to DVD-5 size

Is this the first time you have this problem or the first time making an image file?

    Hi Guys,

    I need help too

I almost have the same problem, but mine can't even make it to ISO

I rip dual layer to my HD with DVD decrypter, and use DVD shrink to compress it to 4.7GB. When DVD Shrink open it folder containing the dvd, the meter of size shown more that 4.4GB (shown in red color), even in default setting where the size ratio level is on "automatic".

Even the scroll bar is at the lowest level. (Far right)

So i can't even compress it at all. Is there any way to fix this?

the only way for me to do is to remove all the audio file.
    (which is silly)

Here is my dvd shrink capture

BTW, my DVD shrink is ver.3.1.7.6 ( i think is the latest)

Thank you very much for your time

  12. Due to the lead in/out I have found that the default 4.7 never fits onto my blanks and reducing by 25-30meg does nothing. I had to reduce the output to about 4.3 gig.

To set dvd shrink to a lower default size you can modify the output by setting it to custom. Off the top you need to select edit/settings or properties and you will find the appropriate box to modify.

Strangely, it works fine at 4.7 for re-writable which suggests to me that it could also be to do with the quality of the blanks ?

  14. I listened to you and it has just finished being re-coded - looks to have made it a bit smaller so hopefully it will fit now.

Can't test it as i am at work and my arms won't stretch home to put a blank DVD into the drive
