  1. I have a file that is in .DAT format. Theres no way i can decompress it. Also i understand it 2 be a VCD or SVCD?

I was told 2 use either any of these program 2 convert it
back 'videocleaner' or 'videoperspective' but the programs could not detect any Video frames in it? The file is not corrupt and it is 708MB.

Please tell me what 2 do, spent a lot of time downlaodin it.

    Thanks

It's a VCD, use isobuster to convert it to mpeg. Here's a guide for extracting.

  3. Downloaded form a legal and reputable site I'm sure. You may be able to just rename it ?????.MPG. You can also use isobuster to properly extract the MPEG file.

  4. Thankyou for prompt reply. I used 'ISO Buster' and extracted .DAT (instructed with nice guide), with MPG frames, (video) it extracted which is good news. But the .MPG file was 0MB

I also tried 'WIN-ISO' but that just extracted it as .DAT again.

Why is the file not beein extracted even though when extracting, an indicator bar is in progress and takes 4 minutes?

    Please help, nearly there.

Thanks, dled it. I did as instructed, but get error message, 'Could not locate MPEG stream'. I have suspicion dat this .DAT file is A DIVX5.MPG?
As i saw someone on net with same file name as mine and it was DIVX. Is dat possible?

    Please help.

  9. I could not open the .DAT file in Virtual Dub, also same with AVI codec. I came across a post dat was identical in nature 2 this post. LOL the same file

They said open it in DVD program, and it played
But someone said i had 2 remake the MPEG head in TEMPEGenc.
Someone also with same file said they just renamed the file 2 .MPEG and it worked.

Just wann ask u, am i renaming file right? What i do is select 'properties' of file and add .MPEG on 2 file name, is dat right?

Thanks 4 ur help so far.

  10. If the file is named FILE.DAT try changing it to FILE.MPG, FILE.AVI, even FILE.ZIP and FILE.RAR. There are lots of files on the P2P networks that are misnamed like that.
