  1. Hiya

    Im using TMPgenc Author 1.5.20.62

When loading a file into it as I normally do I am getting the error message

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"A Video Sequence Header is neccessary for every GOP in a standard dvd"
"The Video Sequence header is incorrect"
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Details of the file(s) I am trying to author are :-
    bitrate 1150000
    framerate 29.970
    Size 352 * 240
    Aspect ratio 12 = -0.0000

I have searched the forum with no luck so apologise if I have missed a topic covering this issue. I have seen in one post Restream is recommended to solve the problem but I donot know how to do this

    thanks in Advance

    Hello,
The specs you gave are that of a vcd. That could be your problem. I would assume tmpgenc dvd author would upcode them for you but I don't know. You could convert them to dvd format (720x480, 48khz audio, mpeg2) and try it then.

  3. Thanks for the quick reply, the file(s) are in .dat format and are a vcd, but I want to author them to Audio/Video folders with .vob's and burn them to 1 dvd. I have done this many times before with the same sort of specs just never had this error before. Any more help greatly appreciated

    Hello,
I don't know if tmpgenc dvd author reads .dat files. You could use isobuster and strip the mpg out if it. Then Tmpgenc may read the vcd mpg file better. Give it a try.

    ---------2.dat

Which I normally load into tmpgenc add chapters then output to audio/video folders.

    Hello,
Well, I'm running out of suggestions. Here's a few.

Rename the .dat file to .mpg and try it.

Is the original vcd intact, try to rerip it.

Work on converting the .dat to .mpg and strip the .m1v and audio out of it. Then load the seperate files into tmpgenc.

That's about all I've got left to give. I hope you find something that works.

    Hello,

Here's a guide for isobuster from baldrick. It says to save the file as "something".mpg. Maybe you forgot to do this?

    Hope this helps.

P.S. Sorry if you've used Isobuster a lot its just forgetting the little things can make a big difference. I also don't mean to insult your intelligence if you've tried this and it didn't work. I'm just trying to give you as many options as possible.

you can add- rewrite the seq. headers with restream or use tmpgenc mpeg tools

Nah wasnt taken in the way of insulting my intelligence !! You have been very helpful, for a tie-over i've burnt them to 2 x vcd's and they work fine but will still pursue this fault as it is getting to me !

    Thanks again

I don't know how to do it with restream, I only see the option to strip sequence headers, but you can add sequence headers easily with mpeg sequence maker.

The absolute easiest way to do this is with TMPGEnc, you can even use the free version.

    1. launch TMPGEnc
    2. do file --> MPEG Tools
    3. select "Merge and Cut" tab
    4. click "Add" to add your mpeg/dat file
    5. click "Browse" to specify the output filename
    6. click "Run"

It will process the file in just a minute or two.

both restream and pulldown.exe writes new headers when processing a file

Mpeg Sequence Maker is an unfinished beta. Moreover, it appears to only accept elementary streams (not mpg). Finally, it doesn't appear to handle MPEG-2 at all.

Pulldown will handle only MPEG-2. Further, both restream and pulldown only take elementary streams. And although they probably rewrite headers...do they actually insert new headers where none existed before? This would be an interesting test.

If you want something you can simply drop your MPG into, and have if fixed for authoring with TMPGEnc DVD Author, then TMPGEnc MPEG Tools is the only option I know of....

though i am not sure -- i wonder if the smart rendering feature of main concept may work also ...

if you match the attributes of the source file in main concept - it will do a "smart render" , which is extremely fast and not really a full render ..

like i said i don't know if it will work , also maybe you can use shrink or something like it to do the same thing ...

in all cases you really have to use the elementary streams i think ..
