  1. Very simply i want to be able to bypass my tv when capturing from my vcr. Can i do this? I can connect the audio out of the vcr to my soundcard direct but at the moment i have to take the actual picture from the out socket on my tv as there is not video out connection on my vcr.
The vcr does have the scart connections but when i try to connect the yellow socket from scart to the composite input on my capture card i get no picture..... Unsure if this is the right way to to about it. Incidentally i want to by pass my tv as the quality of picture on it is not the that great. The video i am trying to capture is analogue camcorder footage that has been recorded onto a vhs tape. My sisters wedding, etc.

Basically. Should i be able to get a picture on my pc direct from my VCR using the scart connection on the vcr.

    many thanks

you should be able to capture direct from vcr. Whatever capture device and or software you are using, will have some setting for the source, which mut be set to match the way you have set it up.

Don't expect better quality than the source tape

Does your capture card have multiple inputs (s-video,composite,coax)? If so you need to select which input your using.

  4. Thanks for the reply, I am sure the problem is with the scart connection that i am trying to use. Have just tried using a different cable ( SCART to SCART cable) from the vcr to the tv and it works fine but the scart socket i am using for the vcr to the pc is one of them cheap connection ones that you plug the video and two audio cables into. So its effectively SCART to composite video in/and audio in on my pc.

What i think might be the problem is that the scart connection states INPUT on it when infact i want to use this as an output.

I have tried using this same cheap scart connection as in input scart and it works fine from the composite out on my standalone dvd player into the tv so it appears to be working ok.

I thought SCARTS were generic and it didn't matter if you used them for input or output. Can anyone clear that up

    Confused me thinks.

  5. Sorted. Bought new scart today with gold connections and a switch to alter the input to or from the scart connection.

So it was the scart after all.

    Thanks
