  1. I have a Sony TRV22 and it no longer appears to be recognized when I plug it into the firewire. I've tried two different cables as well as uninstalled and reinstalled the 1394 controller in the device manager.

I am using XP home and am very perplexed (as well as frustrated). Any recommendations?

Have you tried re-installing your camra driver?

  3. As I understand it, you don't need any special drivers for the camcorder. The firewire should recognize the camera install it. I thought you only need drivers for USB. Is this not correct?

My sony cam was plug and play, different model than yours but I suspect that it would be the same.

Do you have a different computer to try the cam on? How about a different device to try on that port? Might simply be a loose wire if your firewire port is not a pci card type.

Does it show up in "my computer" after you plug it in? If it does and you have two capture devices you have to select your cam as the capture device in the software you are using. and now for the really dumb suggestion.......drum roll please..... Are turning the cam on to VCR mode?

  6. I am sure my camera was plug and play also. Unfortunately, I don't have another device to test out the hardware. I know this worked a couple of weeks ago. I guess my options are (in order of preference):

    - Try out the camera on someone else's PC - but I don't have anyone nearby offhand
    - Install a firewire card I have - instead of using the onboard firewire
    - Reinstall Windows XP

    Any other thoughts?

Sounds about right to me, have you checked the wire connections for your onboard firewire? I'd reinstall as a last resort probably won't solve anything anyway, find out if the cam works on another compouter first.

  9. After nearly turning my system upside down, I managed to figure out it is the camera after all - swaped cameras with a friend and it was not found on his MAC and his camera popped right up on my PC. And of course it is now been 13 months since I bought it.

Not sure what the repair might run - so - is it feasible to capture video through the USB port or not?

    Thanks.

Can't hurt to try.... I have seen a lot posts about trouble using usb and capturing in general, seems usb is not a very good way to convey the data. Good Luck!
