I aquired a movie split into 2 DAT files and I CAN watch them in PowerDVD but I can't burn them successfully and the encoding software won't accept it. How do I get them on disc? I can burn CD or DVD, so which ever will be the best just tell me how please.

You can use the freeware VCDgear to convert the .dat files to MPEG1. That should fix the odd problem...

  5. Must be damaged.

You might be able to use the TMPGEnc / MPEG Tools / demultiplex, then multiplex to recreate the mpeg. (Open / All Files)

Just make sure you set the output for "MPEG-1 Video CD"

The file is 1.5gb can I write it on to a DVD in SVCD format so I don't need 2 disks?

Hmmmm . . . this isn't a certain blockbuster movie of the summer is it? Anyway, I had a similar problem and I just renamed the DAT file to have an extension of .mpeg. Now they work like a charm!

Also, part of the problem is they were probably encoded in the DivX format. You'll need to download and install the DivX 5 codec and then you can convert them in TMPGEnc to an actual MPEG2 file that DVD authoring software will recognize.
