Hello! I'm fairly new to the forums, and I've got a question. I appologize in advance if this question has been asked before, I tried looking through other threads first but didn't find much.
I'm looking for a simple codec package (or maybe I'll need to install seperate codecs). DivX and XviD come to mind, but I'm sure there are others I might need. I'd prefer not to have spyware, obviously, and free codecs would be nice. I'm looking at using these just for decoding video files so I can play them on my computer, so I probably won't need encoding capabilities. I do have a DVD burner, but right now I'm only making backups of my DVD collection, not burning DVD movies from files. Would anyone be able to show me where I can download these codecs? Thanks!
Jared

For some reason I didn't see the sticky at the top of this forum. Boy, do I feel stupid right now.

Just my opinion, but with codecs, I would recommend that you only install the ones you need, as you need them. Codec packs can cause conflicts if you're not careful. Generally, I use AVIcodec or Gspot on a video file to see which codecs are needed, then download and install them individually. Most any codec needed can be found in the 'Tools' section to the left.
