The surface of the disc has to be able to accept the ink. That requires a coated surface. A lot of us would like to use just any DVD to to print on, but that's not the way it is.

Would you hazard a guess to say that you can print on printable dvds and you can't print on non-printable dvds ?

You could try printing on non-printable dvds but I don't think your results would be too flash and I'd hate to be cleaning your printer.
    If in doubt, Google it.
