I have captured a video from an NTSC vhs tape. As you watch the video, the color varies slightly but continuously and if you watch the video as a whole(not in short strips), the color changing effect is very obvious.

I have checked by watching on my TV that the problem lies with the source and not my capture hardware etc.

Here is an example of the color change in a scene that is no longer than 2 sec.

The left image appears to be darker and more bluish whilst the middle image is more reddish(which should be the correct color). The last image is the first image with a square part of the middle image pasted into it so that the difference in color can be seen. It may not be much but discernable for a still image-worse for the video.

Is there a way to correct this continually changing color in VirtualDub?

    Thanks

not in virtualdub -- not really ..

as you would have to normally keyframe the color corrections ..

you can do this in AE or vegas though

I'm not too familiar with the advanced video editing tools. I managed to find out what Vegas is, but pardon me for asking what AE is?

I suppose that these high end softwares would be very costly too and complicated to use-especially when it comes to specific tasks like these?

Then there is no choice than to pay or live with it.

I have experienced a similar problem in the past. At the time, I found out that the problem was due to macrovision.. Is your vhs a commercial vhs?

I do not know how to solve this.
