  1. Hi,

I'm a complete newbie so answers in plain english please!

My friend has kindly put our wedding and honeymoon analogue videos onto DVD. I want to edit these together, add music etc and burn them back onto DVD.

I have tried to convert the first DVD to avi using DVD2AVI but the picture I end up with plays too fast and is very blocky. I have tried several different settings but all with the same result. I'm obviously doing something wrong!

Can someone please point me in the direction of the easiest way of achieving the results I am after and recommend the best programmes to use both for the conversion and the editing.

    Many thanks.

The best program to use will allow to do your editing without actually converting the video, as every conversion causes quality loss. An mpeg video inside of a VOB file is what you have on your DVD. Womble Mpeg Video Wizard will take the VOB's on the DVD and allow you to edit, make transitions, add audio, make stills and it outputs the video as an mpeg. The only part of the video that gets re-encoded is the parts that are changed, for example the transitions. Once you have the final mpeg you can then use any authoring program to make your menus and burn it to disk.

I believe there are other programs that will accept VOB's but I dont' have any experience personally. Womble has a free 30 day trial.
