    Okay, AVIcodec tells me...
    Video: DX50 = DivXNetworks Divx v5
    Audio: 128 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3

And I'm trying to convert that to MPEG so I can watch it on my DVD/VCD Player on TV. The video converts properly but I can't hear the audio.

When I load the divx file in TMPGEnc, it loads both video/audio just fine, like this:
    Video: C:\test.avi
    Audio: C:\test.avi

I never had to extract audio seperately with a XVID file but does everyone have to with a DivX file?

    edit:
Is it necessary to extract audio seperately? I don't mind the audio being AC3 or not. It's probably better that it's not AC3 because my TV does't have 5.1

No, everyone doesn't have to but if you don't you can sometimes have problems like you discovered. Extract the audio to wav and use it as the audio source.

I'm not sure if I did it correctly but I used VirtualDubMod to extract the audio. VirtualDub tells me that it has "detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file (audio stream 1)."

Was I suppose to rewrite the header? Because I selected No, and then went to "Streams" and just Saved as Wav... or would that just end up having the same result?

I selected the wav as the audio source instead and encoded.

I loaded the encoded MPEG file in AVIcodec and it tells me
    Audio: 224 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0]

I can play the video and hear the audio fine on the PC but I can't hear anything on my DVD/VCD Player...

I use TMPGEnc DVD Author to import the mpg file in order to watch it on the standalone dvd player.

If I just select 'Bilingual (2 Channel)' in TMPGEnc DVD Author, then I can hear the audio on my TV.

    Thanks for the help everyone
