I want to convert an 25 fps avi to SVCD for playback on my Panasonic RV31 DVD player. Do I need to encode the entire SVCD as PAL with the 480x576 size, or is it sufficient to encode as a 480x480 NTSC SVCD with 25 fps?
I encoded a bunch of trial clips using PAL SVCD standards (including the 480x576 size) for playback on my standalone using different settings for the source aspect ratio to test for overscan. None of the clips played back normal--there was green pixelation and the aspect ratio was distorted.
What's the simplest way to do this? I don't want to do a framerate conversion if I don't have to. As far as I can recall, I've made PAL VCDs in the past but this PAL SVCD does not seem to work. Perhaps it's because my player is not equipped to play SVCDs without the VCD header trick? I'm not sure where I'm going wrong. Can I just encode as a NTSC SVCD and then specify "PAL" when I burn with Nero? What can I do to playback this file on my standalone?
