  1. Instead of using Headac3e, I thought I would download and give AC3 ACM decompressor a try. However, when I was trying to install it, I get a warning message from Windows reading:

The software you are trying to install for this hardware:
Sound, video, and game controllers has not passed Windows Logo testing to verifiy its compatibility with Windows XP. Continuing your installation of this software may impair or destabilize the correct opperation of your system either immediately or in the future. Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the hardware vendor for software that has passed Windows Logo testing.

Well, I don't exactly want to impair or destabilize my OS so I wanted to know, is this program safe? Does it adversely effect XP's functioning in anyway? Is it worth using, or is their something simpler/safer to use for AC3 extraction from avi?

Any answers would greatly be appreciated.

  2. I've used it many times, on a number of my systems with numerous Windows versions from 98 to XP, it never caused any system problems i'm aware of.

  3. Its OK, it just doesn't have a Microsoft Digital Signature.

You see Microsoft want to run the whole world, and so they built in a function to check for a digital signature, that the programmer will probably have to acquire from Microsoft, before your system will install anything. Not that it will refuse to install, but it will complain.

Its one of the things that Microsoft claims will make our computing experience safer.

Go ahead and install. If you don't like it you can uninstall from "Add-Remove" programs.

  4. I had a feeling it was just MS being overcontrolling. I installed it and it works fine. You can never be too cautious, though. Thanks for the info.
