Hey Guys. I recently heard that the PS2 is now capable of playing divx files of a harddrive. Apparently, you have to have special software to format the HD... but then you'll be able to play games and movies off the HD. Is this true? I don't care about the games, but I would love to be able to make my PS2 part of my home theatre. I know I could just but a player like http://www.onlybestrated.com/RJ1500.htm but since I already have a PS2, I thought I might try this, if it were true ofcourse.

At the moment, I have QCast media player. (for those who don't know, it basically connects to your PC[server] either through RJ45 ethernet connection or wirelessly if you have a switch and streams the video to your TV. VERY COOL IDEA)I have several issues with this bit of software. The CD that they mailed out to me takes like 10 tries to load. Once loaded, it will only play DIVX/XVID movies below a certain resolution. Anything borderline will cause problems (freezing, "audio-continues-but-video-freezes" syndrome and the such). So, since I encode my divx at high resolutions, I can't watch too many movies with this without getting throughly frustrated.

If this HD player isn't true, do you guys know of any other player that will play DIVX/XVID movies (either stream or directly from CD/DVD)? I would even mod my PS2 if it meant I would have access to a player like this.

Cheers and thanks for any and all input in advance.

    Bt.

    taken from doom9.net:

Can I play a DivX on a console?
There's now a special player for the DreamCast. This player is still in the early stages of development. There's also solutions for the PS2 and Xbox, but those solutions require a modchip (which might be illegal in some countries).

there's probably no way to do it without the mod chip - or they would have said it there...

i found a few mods that i think do that - just google it up.. that's how i found it...
With all due respect... and there is respect...
