  1. Is there a software application out there that will allow me to author my own DVD using AVI files I have on my PC with a menu (it can be just a text based menu, as long as I know what I am choosing from)

Does anybody know of a way to do that?

  2. Go up to Uleads web site http://www.ulead.com and look for DVD Movie Factory.

Download trial. It will convert your AVI's to DVD compliant MPEG's and allow you to create menus...albeit the conversion is the not the best but it will be a one-stop shopping software solution for you.

Power Producer 2 will author using avi files and it's faster than anything else I've tried. Studio 8 or 9 will for some people but most, including me, have had too much trouble with Studio to even try to use it anymore. I'm sure there are others

You can also use TMPGEnc to convert the avi files to DVD compliant mpg2 files. They have a 30 day trial version.

Power Producer 2 is from Cyberlink. You can download trial version here:

    http://www.gocyberlink.com/english/download/dl_file_new.jsp?dl_id=138&ProdId=19

You're limited to doing 30 minutes of video in the trial version.

Right now it's on sale for $49.95 until July 31. For me that's a great price since I tried several other programs that cost more and gave me nothing but problems like audio out of sync, hang ups and computer restarts.

You're pretty limited in what you can do with the menus, but most of the time I use PP2 to author the DVD files, then import those files into TMPGEnc DVD Author to make the menu.

I live by the Ulead products. DVD Movie Factory 3 is really good. It makes some VERY professional looking DVD's! And it's affordable. $80 and work the money. I used DVDMF2 for a while, but this has tons more. Easy to use and the Tech support is great Too. Look into it.

I just came across PowerProducer 2 Gold for $9.99. I've never ordered from here, so I'm just passing along the info with no recommendations.
