  1. HR 107 will make changes to the current copyright laws and allow us to make copies of DVD's and CD's for personal use...legally.
Here's your chance to make a differance so please go to this website and send an e-mail to your congressman:

Just shot mine off to the Honorable John Conyers Jr. I really hope this bill passes. I hope it becomes law by the fast track.
    Hello.

A little story about emailing congressmen. A while back, there was an issue dealing with smoking here in New York state. I forget exactly what, a fascistic ban or tax probably. Anyway, this smoker's rights website had this kind of deal where they give you the address of your local senator and a pre-written statement that you can add to. Feeling very strongly about this issue, I emailed my senator Chuck Schumer pretty much saying "I will base my vote for you on the smoking issue". I didn't have high hopes but since it was so little effort, decided to email him anyway. A few months later, I was reading the newspaper, and guess what, Senator Schumer came out against the anti-smoking proposal!!! Coincidence? Possibley, but it still felt good.

So I am sending mine right now.

At last a little sanity. If you want to have even more influence (and you don't have the deep pockets to be able to buy it), spend the 37 cents to send your congressman a real on-paper letter. I've been told that they generally pay more attention to those, figuring that, if you went to the trouble to do that, you will probably go to the trouble to actually vote in November.

Not a bad idea. I received my absentee ballot for Michigan's August primary. I think once I get my November ballot, I will send my congressman a copy of it along with a hand written letter.

    These work.

I recently got a letter from Sen Kay Bailey Hutchison about S2056, the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act.

However, she basically shot down my stance (which is "f--- that bill!"). She likes it. But she's a Bible-belt female politician, I figured as much from her.

Sometimes they agree, sometimes not. They do listen.

I thought we were talking about copyright laws. You're trying to hijack it to decency laws, in my opinion. Shame on you.

  10. e-mail sent. Don't know how far this will go but at least someone is on our side. Instead of worrying about an individual that makes a backup of something they own they should concentrate on the ones that make bootleg copies to sell.
