I am a Home Equity and Financial Consultant for a Broker related to a major finacial corporation. I can't say the name of the main company, but they recently merged with Bank One. That'll give you a good clue. I'm also the IT person for our little branch. I mainly get paid for the IT and take a commision for any financial business I bring in. That all pays for the bills. I also fix people's computers on the side and tell everyone their motherboard sucks and get them something that will really help them. I got some guy to love using the computer because he was complaining it wouldn't take any more information and was too slow. I upgraded his Pentuim 133 to a 3GHz processor and his 1.5GB HD to 80GB. Also got him up to Win98SE from Win3.0. It's not XP, but at least he's evolved and doesn't have problems with buggy programs.

  15. Well...

I'm the Office Superintendent for a local construction company. I work about 6 hours per day and make enough money to pay the mortgage, the car payment, and the home/auto insurance bill each month. That's 80% of our monthly obligations, so I feel like I'm pulling my weight in the relationship!

When I'm not breeding hate and discontentment in the construction community, I'm building, repairing and upgrading computer systems of various makes and models, and transferring people's analog video and audio collections to the digital domain.

I'm also a registered EMT, and an on-call 'computer crimes specialist' for local and regional law enforcement.

Compared to what he was running before, he's not running with any bugs. Win3.0 feels like it has bugs just running the Word Processing suite.

The stockpile is a little low. Can you work a little faster? Do you allow visitors to watch a fielding?

Why? Did I mention that this is federal facility?

Watch us work? Heck, it's so secret here, we have to leave our own monitors off because we have no "need to know" what we're even working on

Is it like international rescue, each component outsourced to a different facility so no one knows what they're really building?

That is done, on rare occasions, and it works well for getting specialty parts fabricated or purchased when there's no other option. But we have several plants within the complex that can make the parts for us. Here is where the whole design is tested ......no disguising it. Instead of hiding it, we get access to all the information, but before that we have to go through the most intensive background investigation that takes about a year to 18 months to complete. They go all the way back, with questions like "when you were seven, you shoplifted a pack of gum. Do you still shoplift?"

He was a git. That happened at Lost Almost (Los Alamos) Labs, our sister lab. They're a bunch of elitist academics there and look down their nose at us and everybody else in the complex. They frequently take security measures lightly because they feel they're above the rules. We had to pay after the Wen Ho Lee incident because they made us stand down for a week and take many hours of intensive security refresher courses. All because this space cadet left a classified hard disk behind a copy machine. He was immediately arrested and I think he got off with a slap on the wrist, but he lost his clearance for life and can never work in the field again.

There was a joke at the time about his hispanic cousin "Free Ho Lee"

I'm a Professional Engineer working as a design engineer for a very small transportation engineering firm (designing highways, roadways, LRT etc...). Because of it's size I'm also the chief I.T., network administrator, cad specialist and "you got a problem with you home entertainment system - ask Rob" guy...

Actually, I really enjoy the job and people are great. Money is decent - enough to support my Wife's (current) spending habbits...

True. He was ostracized by the complex too. Hazel? What an awful energy secretary she was She should be jailed for her work performance, the people she screwed over, and the lies she's told. Her name is still used as a curse word around here
