  1. Hi,

I have a project where I need to convert some old Autodesk FLC animations and put them on a DVD. I'm using Riverpast to convert from *.flc to avi (huffyuv) and then tmpgenc for the conversion to mpeg.

    My questions are:

    1. Is there a tool/way to convert directly to mpeg as opposed to the two stage (and lossy) process described above?
    2. The animations have a weird framerate of 14.1 fps. Should I convert to NTSC or PAL? Will they have problems playing in a set top DVD player?

Any answer to either of the two questions would be much appreciated.

    TIA

  2. Doesn't Adobe Premiere support importing FLC files? I'm pretty sure it does. That would open up many possibilities for export and editing.

edit: I would convert them to whatever standard you want, because you are upsampling the framerate so much I don't think it will be a problem either way.

  3. Yep Primier does import FLC.

Wonder if Tmpgenc can take it directly?

  4. Hi, and thanks to both.

Problem no1 is I don't have Premiere (can't stand the damn thing) so I can't try that out unfortunately. As far as Tmpgenc is concerned I tried to convince it to accept the flc files but it wouldn't play ball (Riverpast does it only after you've installed Quicktime which supports flc playback, but Tmpgenc won't budge.)

Regarding the framerate, I think I'll go with NTSC, my logic being that the source files are 320x240 so resizing to 720x480 would be better than resizing 720x576 in terms of quality (which is pretty crappy already). Or is that screwy logic?

    Thanks again,

    DF
