I figured I would get better answers out of this forum then any other one on the net cause you guys have yet to steer me wrong. Are there any CD-Rs that have a long life after being burned? Or does it all depend on how slow you burn it? Back when I first got my burner I recorded a bunch of MP3s on disc as sort of an archive and recently I tried to check em out and it is unreadable. Which sort of gets me worried. Most of em were on the Memorex discs but I believe I burned them at a high speed with Easy CD Creator... Now I burn everything with nero and 1x unless it's just a throw away disc that I'm not worried about. Just wondering if ya'll have had the same prob or found a solution.![]()

I don't think many people have had cd-r's around long enough to know how long they last. I know I haven't. But to my knowledge It doesn't matter how fast the burn speed is.

I noticed skipping sometimes if I burn any higher. -
I have burned quite a few SVCD's at 40X with no problems, no errors. Never tried a lower speed. As far as CD lifespan, mixed opinions, but good quality discs should have longer life.

I have had a lot of trouble with crappy Prodisc CD-R media which seems to have a lot of problems including deterioration over time.
Since then, I have gotten an Optorite DVD burner which writes CDs at 24x. I have written on Fujifilm (Prodisc) CD-Rs at this speed and how found a lot of problems. Burning at 16x or 8x helps. The discs are of course graded 48x or something. I have had better success with Sony CD-Rs which burn better at 24x and pass Nero quality tests the Fujifilms didn't.
Conclusion? CD-Rs are so cheap now, don't save a few pennies to buy crap. Although some will tell you on this board that all CD-Rs are the same, my experience is that there are BAD CD-Rs just like there are bad DVD-Rs.
Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs are like a quarter each on RIMA.com now. If you buy those and burn them at a reasonable speed like 16x or 24x, you will know that at least you did the best you could. -
How long is long anyway? I'm hoping the cds would last about....a decade? Yeah seriously, because I'm burning photo albums and some musics and videos in it which I rarely watch over again. It's more like an archive then...
So I hope it's not just for 3-5years??!!

CD's should last along time, maybe even in the after life if its kept safe.
