  1. I used TMPG DVD Author to create a DVD from 2 pairs of m2v/wav files. The result is burned to a DVD.

The first A/V seesm to be in 4 vobs (0-3) whereas the 2nd is in 3 vobs (0-2).

My question is: Can I reverse the process? Is there a tool that I can get back the original m2v and wav/mp2 files?

I am thinking that I might use segment of these videos (from DV) for future DVD's. If this works, then I don't need to keep the original m2v/wav/mp2 files, which are quite large.

I am new to this so more detailed help will be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Its a DVD, just treat it as one. Follow any of the DVD Ripping guides on this site. I would use DVD Decryptor in IFO mode. Use Stream processing and set it to demux all files and also set it to export the whole stream as one file (ignore the breaks between vobs every .99gigs).

This will export your m2v, wav, and mp2 files separately and they should be no different than they were when you imported them into your DVD authoring software.

  3. I got a hint from someone to try VobEdit. I opened VTS_01_0.VOB and click on "Demux", then chose to demux all audio stream. The resulting wav file is only 20 min long (starting from 0:00:00) where as the original is 45 min long.

Anything I am doing wrong here?

    Thanks!

I assume that you have more vobs then just the VTS_01_0.VOB. It seems you are only demultiplexing this single vob. I don't use VobEdit. If it allows you, load the IFO or all of the vobs in sequence. Or you could just try my original suggestion and rip it. Its much easier that way in my opinion.

  5. Thanks for the help. I tried and got the following files back

    VTS_01_0.IFO
    VTS_01_1 - 0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 - 720x480 (NTSC) - 4~3.M2V
    VTS_01_1.VOB

    1. How can I get audio back? I used a wav file but the output does not have wav. Is it the VOB file actually a wav file?

    2. The extracted m2v file has different checksum compared to the original. Is this normal?

    Thanks!

  7. Thanks for the all the help.

Is that normal for extracted m2v/wav files to have different md5 checksums?
