I had decided on CCE for my encoder of choice. Then last night, all encodes with CCE came out blocky as hell.
I've reverted back to the old trusty TMPGEnc. It is so painfully slow, but it works every time. CCE & MC do soemthing different every time I sit down to start a long project. I will have to settle with TMPGEnc and take the extra time necessary.
As for AVIsynth, I know nothing about it's filters. I've been using convolution3D because that is what I was show how to do.
Could anyone list their favorite AVIsynth filters for analog video? I would like to see a few different ones and try each one for myself.
THanks!
LS

I suggest you read (and search in) Doom9's Avisynth Usage Forum.
Many filters and scripts are discussed there.
That's where the Avisynth experts are anyway. -

The built-in TemporalSoften isn't bad either, but SpatialSoften is very slow. Anyway, if you do a search you will find several noise reduction filters with example scripts.

www.kvcd.net has tips and examples for avisynth also.
When you download avisynth from sourceforge, also grab avsedit. This will make scripting much easier.Linux _is_ user-friendly. It is not ignorant-friendly and idiot-friendly. -
I've posted a question out there already but no responses as of yet.
This is my problem (post a screenshot). What filter can I use to fix this?
If you just ask for the best noise reduction filter, you probably won't get an answer. -
Yeah, the Doom9 guys are a bit intolerant of newbies. Think you get flamed here for a question that has already been answered!
Try Donald Graft's page. Fairly comprehensive list of filters, some good ones of his own. Decent instructions and good links to where the filters come from and other help. I'm at work so I don't have the URL, but a quick Google on avisynth Donald Graft will get you there. -
I'm no expert at this by any means, but I HAVE experimented with NoMoSmooth & Unfilter & PeachSmoother... CONVOLUTION 3D wins hands down. At least I can get a visual idea what it's doing in VirtualDubMod, ha... The others don't seem to do much at all, they're too subtle.
I just don't understand why the Doom9 people put this filter down. I think it's fantastic! Absolutely essential for VHS capture! Plus the fact that you can tweak the settings, if you want... -
You can see an impressive Avisynth noise reduction example in this Doom9 thread, but setting everything up seems very complicated, so I don't think I'll bother.
