    Hey everyone,

Completely new here, just waited out my 3 days to post on the forums so a big hello to everyone! I've been reading page upon page of stuff in the forums and can't find what I'm looking for, so here's my problem. If anyone can help it'd be much appreciated.

I've been burning DVD's for about 6 weeks now, backed up my entire collection of about 120 and then made some copies of rental movies for my 4 yr old brother who destroys them quick so it's more economical this way. Been using DVD Shrink (latest versions) to rip and strip to the bare movie with one audio track and English subtitles (hidden by default). If the movie is large I use Intervideo's DVD Copy 2 Platinum as I found it to be amazing for putting long movies such as Braveheart onto a single DVD-R. Viewing on a 28" widescreen and seems flawless.

All went well for about a month of using the program, only now when I compress in DVD Copy and try to load back to Shrink (from Hard Drive or a burnt DVD) it says there is "Invalid Data" in the last vob file, could be number 3, 4 or 5 depending on the movie size. It worked fine before, but all of a sudden I'm getting this. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me why DVD Copy would do this?

I've also noticed a few things. DVD Copy works in 2 stages, well on the second stage (when just copying to HD, I use Nero 6 to burn) it gets to about 10% then says complete... And the movie is 4.29GB and runs fine, but wont load back into Shrink. It's very weird.

I've tried re-installation and contacting customer services but no replies from them... From what I've read they just don't bother with customers do they? Anyhow, this isn't a burner issue as the problem originates from the files on the HD. I've a MSI burner for +/-, HD burn etc. and I only ever use Ritek discs... Had 2 costers from about 120 movies and 30 data DVD's burned.

Please help! And again, thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Kurtis Draven.

Just about all of us here at this site dont like version 2.

Version 1.2b works fine ... but version 2 leaves artifacts and small blemishes/pixels during the scenes. I stopped using version 2 and use version 1.2b instead.

CloneDVD 2 ... works very well for me and seems very similar in similar ways to DVD Copy version 1.2b ... especially when I use AnyDVD with it.

Oh and by the way ... you are going to catch hell talking about copying Rental videos. We don't talk about doing illegal stuff ... could get this site closed down. Or getting yourself banned from entering this site.

    Hey,

Thanks for your reply. I don't think I broke the rules. I didn't link, ask for or provide information on how to obtain warez, and although rentals are warez I've not provided anything about it, only implicated myself in an illegality...

Anyhow. As I said, I've been using DVD Copy 2 Platinum for about a month, and any DVD's I've had pixelation on had so from ripping (using either DVDShrink or SmartRipper 2.6). I've never had a program add pixelization to a movie.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem with DVD Copy 2 as in it's adding something to the final vob file and no other programs seem to be able to read the result? And if anyone knows how to fix it. I've heard about the earlier version, but I also heard that it's output is of inferior quality to version 2. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    Regards,
    Kurtis Draven.

Maybe or maybe not ... you wont get too many replies for your problem because whenever we use verison 2 we get lousy results. I do have version 2 installed but I always have alot of pixel distortion throughout the movie. So I dont use it. But version 1.2b is working for me.

I like verison 1.2b because it retains the menu when I do just a movie only rip.

It is a pain when I pop the DVD in and walk off to get the popcorn and find the movie has already started playing ... so it is convenient to have a menu blocking the automatic playing of the movie.

Perhaps you should try CloneDVD 2 ... behaves the same way as Intervideo DVD Copy ... I've started using it instead.

  5. I've got V2 but only use it for DVD5 to DVD5 copies (nice and fast)... anyhow I have never encountered your problem.. but you will no doubt want to go to intervideo's web site. There is a small Microsquash app they require to run V1 or V2. It may resolve your problem. Also, as a troublshooting step uninstall and reinstall program.

I have to agree with CloneDVD V2 - it is very well written and does a great job with 9 to 5 copies.

    Heya,

Thanks. How does CloneDVD 2 do on movies between 2 and 3 hours? Up around the 2hrs 50 minutes mark etc? I hate splitting movies onto two discs unless they come like that (LOTR etc) which is why I liked Intervideo DVD Copy... Results were perfect . I've tried CloneDVD before I think... Or maybe it was DVDxCopy, god there were so many... I tried a lot anyway, and settled on DVDShrink and DVD Copy for longer movies.

    Regards,
    Kurtis Draven.

You wont know until you tried ... you have heard from two of us ... that it is a good program. And I've already shown you the road to clonedvd2 ... the ball is on your side of the court.

We can't do everything for you.

Would you like us to rip it for you and send it to you ... COD of course.

As for the question about LOTR ... I did leave it split onto two disks

  8. @DVD_ripper: Why use the program on a DVD5 to DVD5? Wouldn't it just be easier to rip to HD and burn?
    Blah, blah, blah

hmmm ... there is some confusion there.

Just use nero to copy the disk [I have a DVD reader and a DVD burner] or just make a folder on one of your drives ... I have Six of them ... and copy to ... and burn from there.

  10. Yeah, you could do that, but the reason I don't do that is because, I don't want to make any unnecessary coasters. I find that I like the extra peace of mind that comes from knowing the original disc is readable before I burn.

    Hey again,

Um, I never mentioned what DVD's DVD Copy had problems with. I thought it was them all but it turns out it wasn't... So far it has had problems with The Matrix Reloaded & Revolutions, and the first Harry Potter movie.

lacywest, what exactly are you offering to rip? Think you're a bit confused there... Never mentioned any movie titles. Thanks though for the direction to CloneDVD. I'll give it a try. I take it that it's better than DVDShrink?

Has anyone else had problems with the above movie titles? What seems to happen is when it's parsing the vob files, it goes through for a bit counting up, then encounters a - number and goes right to the end. The vob's play fine on the HD but a DVD player gets incorrect .ifo information and freezes/skips. My method of copying was the following:

    1. Insert DVD painted side UP!
    2. Use DVD Shrink 3.1.7 to re-author to main movie only with AC3 5.1 sound and English subtitles set to hidden as default, with NO compression.
    3. Rip to the HD with above settings.
    4. Use InterVideo DVD Copy 2 Platinum to compress... First stage goes fine, skips on the parsing... Result is unreadable in Shrink and wont play in a standalone player.

I've heard that The Matrix movies in particular create problems while copying... Maybe I'm wrong. I happen to have 2 of the same DVD player and TV (company I ordered from sent me 2 for price of 1, I never complained) so I'll compare a movie that works in DVD Copy to one in Clone on the same largeish screen.

    Regards,
    Kurtis Draven.

I use Indervideo DVD Copy with AnyDVD to copy protected DVD's (DVD5 to DVD5) for backup purposes only. Some people use DVDDecrypter for this.. I like IV DVD Copy2.

Limited disk space so I don't leave a lot on the system hd's

i've had serious pixelization problems with intervideo 2 - caused pixelization in alot of copies i made of movies - not necceserily matrix style movies... it's just a bit screwy on encoding... i've started using dvd shrink and nero 6 for burning and never looked back...
With all due respect... and there is respect...
