  1. Hi all

I've made a film using iMovie and exported it to DVD using Toast. I now need to add an extra scene but I've deleted the iMovie project. I converted the DVD iback to a mpeg using Cinematize and tried to import it back into iMovie but it blew my harddrive space. Is there a way of editing the mpeg file directly? Or is there a more space efficient way of importing mpegs to iMovie?

I have Quicktime, Toast, Imovie and Cinematize.

I desperately need to get this done so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    one question:
how did you "export iMovie to dvd via toast" is this a feature my iMovie is missing?!?!

you could technically rip the dvd over to .vob's and then with great ease find your spot cut the vob thats been demuxed/remuxed to .mpeg and author yoru new dvd with your new mpeg inbetween teh two

kind of a pain though, but anything is doable if you want to put the effort into it.

Wont have nice transitions thugh like iMovie allows you to do

  3. You are probably running into iMovie's lovely 2GB limit on importing clips.

You need to edit down your MPEG file into several smaller chunks and then import them one by one into iMovie. To do this, however, you need to either use QuickTime Pro to export the movie into DV before editing (needs lots of time and hard drive space), or use a free utility like JAW MPEGSplitter to split the MPEG file directly. I think you may lose some frames at the split points, but this may be okay.

Or, you could just lay out the cash and get Final Cut Express which handles bigger clip files without a problem...
