  1. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum..I'm honestly not sure which one to put it under.

I've got a standalone DVD recorder which I use for transferring video stuff onto disc, then I copy it off these discs onto my hard disc for editing/authoring. Until recently, I was doing this with DVD + RW discs, and my NEC2500 dual standard burner read them fine..as did my Pioneer 105 -R drive..

I've recently got a DVD-R/RW standalone (LG 4810), and the RW discs it's creeating are not being recognised by either of my DVD drives. Are you supposed to close off the re-writable before the PC drive can recognise it? I didn't do that on the +R re-writables?

You need a VR patch for the disks to be 'seen' by XP.

    Google it.

  3. OK, I googled, and all I could come up with was links to a Microsoft site telling me a patch was avaialable, but it can't be downloaded!!!

Anthing I should be 'Googling' for in particular?? I've tried as many variations on VR patch/DVD-RW/Windows XP that I can think of

    Finalize the disc.

  5. -RW must be finalized before another device can read the disc.

+RW, there is no finalization step.

  6. Yep, finalised it, still won't show me the files...strangelt, it will play back in Power DVD on my PC, so the PC must be able to recognise the disc....I've tried it in -VR mode and -video mode..same results

    Try this:

    VR_instantread.exe
