  1. I'm trying to import mpeg2 video clips into iMovie and tried to convert the files with FCP to DV but keep getting error number 34 when I try to export using QuickTime conversion/DV

Is there an application that will convert the mpegs to DV?

    Any info appreciated.

There are many options but the two I use are:
Toast 6, in the Video Tab ($)
DiVA, and select one of the DV codecs ($free)

  3. yeah, i also use DiVA to convert .m2v files and it works like a charm. usually the audio and video are demuxed, not sure if it would work if they were muxed? anyway, don't have toast 6 yet (i have 5) although i do want to upgrade one of these days.

DiVA will accept muxed files but it does not convert audio.

    Error -34
    dskFulErr
    Disk full

I don't have any trouble using QT to convert MPEG2 to DV. Are you sure you have enough disk space? DV = 13+ GB per hour.

    ! I was trying to convert a 40 second clip...I've got a little more than 10GB available...

    Thanks for the feedback.
    I'll keep trying.

There's probably a problem with either your system or the file. I can import a mpeg2 stream or VOB directly into iMovie 4 and FCP 4. iMovie automatically converts it, FCP converts to DV after rendering, and I have never had the 'error 34' while converting mpeg2 to DV with QT. Check your source file.
