  1. Just got Ulead Videostudio 8 to go with the JVC DX28 I just also got. Using firewire connection.

In VS8 I have a couple of problems. If I capture in DV2 format the sound in places is distorted/crackles but in DV1 format it is fine. Is there any problems in using DV1 format.

Also the SHUTTLE feature and pause in capture mode will send the sound into a strange machine gun type sound loop.

    Thanks

  2. What are you capturing from / through? DV (Fwire), USB Capture device, PCI capture device... can you throw us some more information.

If you are capturing with a USB / PCI Device (AVI / MPEG Capture) you may want to try capturing thru the devices native capture software tools. I have a USB Device and have heard that VS7 and 8 causes some audio sync problems. Capturing with the native program that comes with the device... no problem.

Use DV1 the only difference between the two is that DV2 creates a seperate audio stream. DV1 will also create a smaller file. Is there a purpose for DV2? I dunno , I'm sure there is. Here's a link http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/archive/dvavi.mspx

Edit: You should see or hear no difference between the two, possibly hitting the limitations of your system? Have you tried viewing the AVI in something other than VS after you capture it. I have Media Studio Pro and sometimes get some funky audio/video problems when previewing a AVI when editing. They go away if I render the portion I want to preview.

  4. the only difference between DV1 and DV2 is the sound, DV2 is PCM and DV1 is....i forgot, but you can see it when you capture.

If capturing to DV1 works, go ahead and do that. As long as you work within VS8, youll be OK. If you use another software for more processing (Adobe Premiere does not like DV1, reports wrong resolution), you can convert to DV2 using ULead's free converter available for download. I think the only real difference is the header of the AVIs, as the conversion on a 13GB file took only seconds, so no time for reprocessing the sound, I don't care how fast a system might be.

  6. Thanks for the info on DV1.

Just made my first Home movie DVD thanks to the ease of using Videostudio 8.

    Thanks.
