could someone tell me if there is a program would allow me to utilize my srt files. I downloaded a srt file separate from a movie. I don't know how to make the subtitles appear? I have MP9, Media classic, VLC, RM, and a couple more. Please let me know how to use this srt file.

    install FFDSHOW.
Go to its option, enable subtitles there (set their options too - i.e. if youre russian you may want your cyrilic fonts instead of default ANSI code).
To use subtitles with the movie you should have subtitle file same titles as the movie file is, and keep it in the same location or folder (thats when you set ffdshow to automatically search for available subtitles).
Otherwise I recommend creating one central location for subtitles (i.e. C:/SUBTS/ ) and storing all subtitle files there, with autosearch option in ffdshow disabled but forcing ffdshow instead to read subtitles from this 'central' directory (in same options). This will help with i.e. divx movies on CD-R that do not have subtitles on the disc - since ffdshow will read them from your 'central' location (if you have them there ofcoz )

This wont work with RM or any other format that ffdshow doesnt support though.

  3. A couple of tips:

Vobsub will make your subtitle appear automatically on the movie in your media player, provided that the subs are named the same way as the movie (ABC.AVI versus ABC.SRT for instance) and are located in the same directory.

My player of choice is BSPlayer - it handles subtitles very well actually.

    Cheers

all decent players allow you to load subtitles - in bsplayer (my favourite too) you just press ctrl+L and then find your subs and it plays it with the movie - no need for it to be of the same name...
With all due respect... and there is respect...
