I didn't know exactly where to post this...so I put it here![]()
Ok, I'm recording video (.avi) from my satellite receiver onto my pc using Virtual VCR. The movie I'm recording is 2 hours and I'm wanting to put the whole 2 hour movie onto 1 dvd disc at the highest possible quality.
I'm going to convert it to mpeg2 and was wondering if there are any programs out there that will take and compress it without loosing much quality?
Can I use DVDShrink on the file to compress it?
If not, then I'll probably just use Ulead's DVD Workshop 2 like I've been using...just looking for different ways
Thanks!![]()

Sometimes I really scare myself...lol!
Although I have been recording in .avi format and using tmpgenc to encode that to my mpeg2 format to burn to dvd...what I meant to ask was if I record from sat to my pc using a program to capture mpeg2...then is there a program to compress it to get 2 hours onto 1 dvd single layer disc and keep good quality.
Sorry, I confuse myself sometimes.
Is there any way that's better than the other as far as capturing video from a satellite receiver to burn to dvd? e.g. just use something to capture in it mpeg2 and then use my burning software to burn it to dvd.
I'm really not planning on doing any editing of the video, maybe just trimming at the beginning or end or maybe not even that.
Thanks! -

As for quality between capturing avi or direct to mpeg...try it and decide for yourself. Many people have good success going straight to mpeg."Art is making something out of nothing and selling it." - Frank Zappa -

Thanks for the input. I use to record straight to mpeg, but can't remember why I stopped doing it. I think I stopped doing everything with video when my hd failed about 7 months ago and lost everything. Backup images were to old
Anyway, Trying to get going again.
Thanks again,
