You need an authoring program that recognises chapters in a motion menu, and that can be programmed to play up to a certain point before the menu sub pictures kick in. I believe scenarist can do this, but I don't know of any others.

Your other choice is to split the clip into two pieces - before menu and menu. The before menu goes into the first play slot, the menu then follows. You may have a slight pause between the items though. This is usually most noticable when the sound breaks, but you can hide this with a fade.

Disolves between menus are done in a similar manner, with seperate clips playing between menus. DVD Lab can do this and create the transitions for you.

How ironic.........I just did one of those for my son's Baseball team.

guns1inger hit the nail on the head. I used DVD-Lab to make mine. I made an animated clip and at the last few seconds, I faded in the text links. I then made the motion menu with using the same image and text. I then created butons shaped as Baseball bats that are invisable normaly. They are only visable when the selection is activated.

I set the 1st animated clip to play before the Menu. It then goes right to the menu, where you can select the video you want to watch. It looks real cool actually.

Download an evaluation version of DVDLab, if you don't already have it, and then go to the tips section at Mediachance.com to download the motion menu tutorial.

It's so simple that I did my first motion menu while following the steps of the tutorial online (and browsing through dvdrhelp while encoding )
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

What you want is advanced video editing and Authoring. The problem is, you don't know what you're doing. Sure I could write a guide for it, but I don't have the time. Besides, I hate typing. I'm going to give you some advice on it, but you'll have to do some searching for the guides you'll need.

    1) The link to the clip doesn't work. Import your clip into a good video editor like Premiere, then cut where you want it to end and export the last frame as a bmp.

    2) Edit that bmp in a good image editor like Photoshop. Cut out the center like you want to make it transparent and save as a psd. Now overlay that psd on the videos that you want to preview. You should see the videos through the transparent layer. You can make the videos like 5-10 sec long. Do this for all videos you want to preview. Render each one out to Mpeg-2. These will be you motion menus.
To make the effect you want, you'll have to make "Switched Menus". Do a search for it on the DVD-Lab tutorial site.

    3) you can have background music, but it will have to be a different file for each menu.

It's as simple as that......... if you don't understand, then you're in over your head and should just stick to simple still menus.

    Good luck!
