  1. I wonder if anyone can help me. I have several avi files with AC3 audio. I am attempting to convert them to DVD format, but as the film progresses the audio gets more and more out of sync with the video. The avi file itself plays fine all the way through, so the problem is definitely somewhere in the conversion process. I have been doing the following:

    - extract wav using nandub
    - fix AC3 using BeSliced
    - encode video using TMPGEnc Plus (latest version)

The file is always 23.976fps, and according to GSpot the codecs are installed (it's always been either XVid or Divx 5 codecs for the video) and when I press render it always resolves, saying it has the required codecs. I have set DirectShow as highest priority on TMPGEnc, have set the frame rate as 23.976(29.97 internally), encode mode 3:2 puuldown, YUV format 4:2:0, component precision 9 bits, motion seacrh precision High, inverse telecine is also selected. I have tried changing bitrate, precision values, but the problem always recurs. I then tried Mainconcept MPEG encoder and it works absolutely perfectly every time , although I feel the video quality isn't as good (this may be something I'm doing wrong with MC). I use DVD Lab to author, but can't see how this can affect it - I tried TMPGEnc DVD Author but get the same results.

Any ideas? I would rather stick with TMPGEnc as the video quality appears much better (does this sound right?). My hunch is that this is codec-related. Has anyone experienced similar problems and would be able to verify? Many thanks in advance

    de-select this and try again.

  3. OK Bugster, I shall do - is this not required as the video is film format (23.976fps) - does the inverse telecine not convert this to NTSC format (or is that what the 3:2 pulldown is for, in which case when should you use the inverse telecine?)

I am no expert on NTSC issues but as far as I am aware you do not need IVTC when the source is already 23.976fps. 3:2 pulldown adds flags to the mpeg stream to tell the player to repeat certain fields to make the playback up to the NTSC frame rate if 29.976fps.

Again, AFAIK, you only use IVTC with 29.976fps material that has been telecined from film to that frame rate.
