  1. Hi,

    As title, I have bought one of the £150 LiteOn LVW-5001 dvd recorders and would like some help.

    I have input the 2,9,6,0 hack which is on this site in the hack section and playing other regions is fine, but, the note on this hack states that it is possible to record from tapes and dvds. I cannot do this however hard I try.

    I solely bought this unit to replace my video recorder for tv recording and to get all my video films onto disc as I dont think they'll last much longer as some are old even family videos. But some of my videos seem to be protected and I cannot record them.

    Please could someone let me know if there is a hack that takes off the CGMS/A / macrovision whatever it is so I can record my own video tapes onto disc.

    Also Is there a hack/firmware that I can get for this player to enable me to use DVD-R/-RW discs as well as DVD+R/+RW.

    Please let me know

    Thank you

    Tris

    See this:

    There is no firmware hack to enable the usage(recording) of DVD-R/DVD-RW so far.

  5. Thanks very much lads.

    Will the hacks for the us 5001 model work for the uk machine too?? I imagine it would as there usually almost the same machine just with a uk plug and different regioning.

    If you know that it works/should work on the uk model of the 5001 please let me know.

    Cheers

    There is one. If somebody would give me a working version, I'd upload it. It a hack of firmware 2163 you're after. The LiteOn forums linked by cchang have info on it.

    I have these so far:
    1163 = 5001 NTSC USA
    1063 = 5005 NTSC USA
    2063 = 5005 PAL UK

  7. take it back.its a piece of shit.
    i returned mine,same problems,poor quality picture and sound,non compliance when trying to play the discs on other player,go for the 5005 if you must.
    but the price you paid is actually more than the recommended retail of it in europe 170 euros.
    well below the £150 you paid-i take it you bought it in currys(dixons-biggest ripoff retailer in the country.)

  8. Lordsmurf:

    Thank you very much. I'll have to take a look at the liteon forums, and I'll keep check at the hack section of this site for that crack. I'll also try to find it myself and if i do i'll let you know.

    I did apply the update for the player as it recognised and took it so its just the hack i need now.

    RottonFoxBreath:

    Yes I got it from currys but I've had non of the problems you describe except the dvd-r/rw but that dont bother me too much really and the pic Q and sound dont seem too bad to me apart from the fact that it doesnt seem to record the digital or dts sound track when i record from a back up that has already been made just the normal stereo track. Im not sure if it is possible to record the digital track as well, any ideas??

    If not it doesnt bother me too much as i mainly bought it for recording from my video collection and tv

    Thanks guys hear from you soon

  9. Hi again,

    I have applied both the update 2163 and the hack file from that american site and I managed to back up one of my daughters dvds (advisable as shes only 3) I have tried a few more dvds and some of them will record and others wont record it just says 'protected content' on the onnes that dont record and just records the others.

    Does tis mean that the macrovision hack has worked or not?? (Since I can record some of my dvds and not others) How can I tell?? I find it strange that I can record off of some of my dvds and not others from 3 differwent region dvds. Does the fact that i can record from dvd in the first place (even if it isnt all dvds) mean that the hack has worked or not??

    Sorry to trouble everyone with all this.

    Thanks

    I have the Daytek DVR-P30 version of LVW5001. To a general consumer, it is simple and intuitive to use, good Picture Quality, good sound quality and compatible with all my DVD players. A very reliable simple DVD player that a general housewife can use it.

    You may be hitting into digital protection.
    Macrovision is analog protection.

    Then again, maybe the firmware did not take.

    I'm really not sure what CGM or CSS may do,
    never tried to copy a DVD like that.

    All DVD recorders have a video decoder IC which converts analog video signal into digital stream ( usually the MPEG2 ). One of the build blocks of such decoder is macrovision detection circuit. Most decoders can detect analog macrovision levels 1 and/or 2 and digital key SGMS/A. The recorder FW can indeed ignore this detection because decoders only indicate macrovision presence and actually do not stop to work. But I have newer seen for any DVD recorder with macrovision detection internally disabled. So for a while We have to use external macro removers. I may recommend one I'm using with Panasonic DMR. It is also good for LiteOn link is here (dvd red pro)

  14. I've one of those scart leads with a macro protection remover. Works ok on my 2 videos & dvd player to video so guess it would do the same on dvd to dvd as well. Just not too sure where you can buy them from. Payed £30 for mine by the way from a local computer fair.
