  1. Hello All

A quick question, In the past I have used Windows Movie Maker 2 and TMPGENC software to convert and create my DV video to DVD format.

I have the opportunity to purchase Vegas 5.0a and would like to know what people think of the encoder that is encorporated within Vegas. I realise that there is a substantial price diference between TMPGENC and Vegas, however more money is not always a safe bet. Does anyone have the knowledge on how the encoders match up in terms of quality of picture etc?

    Thanks

PS. I have posted this in the wrong Forum and am not sure how to move it about. Could a Moderator please assist, or perhaps let me know if this is something I can do. Thanks

Vegas uses the Main Concept MPEG Encoder. Search for topics on it, and/or download the demo for. It should be noted that it isn't the full blown encoder, but does have most of the same options.

I'd get the PDF for Vegas and read through it for the encoder settings, the demo doesn't allow MPEG2 or AC3 output.

  3. To carry on from what was mentioned previously. My Vegas 5.0b software is asking that I should register the MainConcept Mpeg encoder with their website. However the website shows that Mainconcept should only used with version 4 of Vegas.

Perhaps installing DVD Architect 2 will register the software, any thoughts?

There is an activation code for MPEG2 and AC3 output you can enter once you select that output format. It should give you a couple of choices, online registration, telephone, and offline.
