I put together my new work computer mostly without a hitch. However, Internet Explorer disappeared from the desktop, after doing some OS updates. I tried reinstalling it, but the icon still wouldn't appear.

Other than that, IE works fine, but I have to use the quick launch icon. This is the second time this happened. The last time, it happened with my home computer, so I just reinstalled the OS from scratch. If possible, I would like to avoid doing so with my work computer.

Is there a setting that I can adjust, to make the icon appear on screen again? I can add a shortcut, but I'm looking for the original icon that should be there.

If you are looking for a version of the IE icon without the shortcut arrow, you need to modify the registry. It's not really worth it. But if you must, do a Google search for 'restore IE icon to the desktop'.

Thanks guys. I downloaded the registry hack. I was concerned that something was wrong.

I'm assuming that it's part of the security features that are installed with sp4 and this happens to everyone. Or am I wrong?
