  1. Hi!

Here is my question, How to compress an AVI file so it keep the interlaced fields from the input files.

I'm a computer animator, for our demo real, our Studios gave us dvd Video files of the final product so we can take our animations out of it...
(They would give us a DV tape but the final editing is done in another studio, so no music...)

    So here is my process.
    1) I open the .VOB files in Flask Mpeg
    2) I ouput an AVI file with the Matrox MJPEG codec so I can Edit it in Adobe Premiere
3)Edit in Adobe Premiere and export Directly to a DVD
4)Put the DVD in a dvd player, and record Video tapes in the VCR.
(Demo Reals are put on normal Video Tapes so it can be played on any TV, without any problem... So that is why I want to keep the Interlaced Fields

The Only Problem is that When I output in Flask MPEG, It output it as Progrerssive. I didn't find any way to output and keep the interlaced fields.

So is there any way I can do that, I don't really have to output an AVI file, I just do this because I thought I would get a good quality with the Matrox MJPEG codec, If I could Output in another format, but keep the Interlaced field it would be great, Hell the Ideal Way to do it would be to import the VOB files Directly into Adobe Premiere (PRO) but I don't think it is possible right..?

Please help me out, my demo real is my career, it is very important to me to get the highest quality possible.

Thank you very much for your time and suggestions.
And sorry if i had to tell you the story of my life..

    Patrice

  3. Agreed. uncompressed. Or huffyv in rgb mode,. BU if i was in your situation id use uncompressed ti ensure no weirdness. The file wont have a field order set in it, but it will retain the interlaced nature, you just have to know the field order.

  4. As lordsmurf has said, compressing the AVI with an MPJEG codec will cause quality loss, so you should dump to raw AVI, but this shouldn't have anything to do with your interlacing problem..

FlaskMPEG has a deinterlace option you might have checked by accident, it's on the video tab of the configuration window.

    The readme:
    http://flaskmpeg.sourceforge.net/docs/readme.html

Specifically mentions where the option is (just search the document for "deinterlace"), if you can't find it.

Interlace is not a "problem" ... I'd HIGHLY suggest AGAINST deinterlacing.

  6. I meant "interlacing problem" as in frames ending up deinterlaced, instead of remaining interlaced.

You are absolutely right in that interlacing is not a problem.
