A friend was in Japan recently so I asked him to grab me a pack of 8x DVD-Rs since they're so readily available over there. He got me a Fujifilm 8x multicolor 5 pack, the colors are just too cool!

I hated to rip open the nice wrapping on them I've got some Verbatim 8x -Rs on the way, and a Lite-On DVD-ROM (not the best for Kprobe, I know, but 3rd DVD burner would be overkill) so I'll finally be able to do some comparative tests myself.

  2. I agree, don't waste the money on a new burner just to confirm that they are absolute perfection. I got some under the Piodata lable before they did a bait and switch and went to a cheap brand and the ones I had were great.

This is not too bad a price:

In retrospect, I should have asked him to get me some Maxell 8x discs. We can get TYG02 here in the States as you pointed out (though in bulk spindles only) but as far as I know MXL RG03 does not exist outside of Japan.

  4. I am confused since your title stated "TYG02". Are you suggesting that the MXL RG03 is Ty media? It would not be logical for Ty to have two different media for DVD-R 8X.

If you are not, what does the RG03 have that makes it superior to TYG02?

No no, MXL RG03 is media Maxell manufactures itself. I was just saying I should have asked for that instead of some branded TYG02 since I can easily get unbranded TYG02 discs online. As for quality, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of difference based on kprobe scans I've seen of both media.
