  1. It appears my DVD player will play VCD but not CD-R.

How can I burn a VCD that my DVD player will play?

    Thanks

  2. cd's are pressed, cd-r uses an organic dye, older DVD players cannot read these, due to some problems in wavelength pick up. Which DVD player do u own, cause i have a Sony DVP- S360, in which CDR's dont work but CDRW do work

  3. i think youre trying to say that your dvd player plays original *imprinted* vcds but not a vcd on a cdr

when u create a vcd on a cdr the info is burned onto the disc.....

original factory produced vcd info is printed on the disc

    big difference.

check the dvd compatability list on this site to see if your dvd player can play cd-r media

if it can play vcd on a cdr then check your vcd authoring

  5. Ugh.... It is a Panasonic DVD-RV80...says on it it plays VCD...read fine print..does not play CDR...GRRRRR

    Oh well

What other options do I have?

I really just want to record TV with my tuner and burn it onto VCD to play out to tv. Should I get a cheap DVD player or some kind of TV out card?

    Thanks!

  7. One more newbie question

CD-RW is read writeable meadia correct?

Also can you recomend a brand name that would be good, or are they all about the same.

    Thanks again.

  9. You could just buy the one and only dirt cheap
DVD player that will play ANYTHING! Go down to
your local Wal-Mart and buy the Apex 500w ($100
or less) It will play VCD, SVCD, MP3's all of
CD-R and CD-RW. (Not to metion DVD, DVD-r and
    DVD-RW) I love mine.

I've heard that you have to be careful with them...
they have awesome features but they're not very
rugged. I haven't had any problems. I mention
it so you won't go throw it in the back of your
    pickup.

It seems there aren't nearly as many manufacturers of CD-RW discs as there are CD-Rs. If you look at the manufacturer code that is on these discs, you'll often notice brand names and no-names are actually the exact same disc. This is especially true of the new high speed (10x) discs. Cheapest is probably your best buying criteria.

Another possibility is to find a brand of CD-R which your DVD player *will* read. For example, after months of failures trying to get my Sony DVD player to accept many brands of CD-R, I finally found a brand which works reliably (100% so far) - these are Swiss made 80min and sold in the UK under the "Vivastar" brand.

I understand that these use a new kind of dye that (some?) DVD players are happy with - but I can't promise anything about compatibility with *your* player of course.
