I just recieved my scanner today and I'm trying to find the best methods to scanning my dvds. I can't seem to get an image that I like. When I scan at the max dpi (1200) i get an image that looks too grainy. I want the best images without concern for disk space. What are some of your methods?
btw-I'm using Scangear CS with a canon 3200f

You may want to try a paint program like PhotoShop to drive your scanner. I use the free covers at cdcovers.cc

I've been using cdcovers.cc but I'm not impressed with their cover quality at all that's why I purchased the scanner

And how did the paint program thing work with your scanner?

I've come across dvd label scans that have been 2mb plus and they look great. I also had a Freaky Friday label that looked grainy but it printed perfect -
I've always noticed that when I am printing the DVd label through my Epson CD Print Program, the images always appear grainy..however when you open them up in Photoshop..or print them out they look great.
I have a Epson R300 -
Here is a sample of one of my scanned labels in Epson print CD. I scanned it at 1200 dpi max resolution

I only ever scan mine at 300 Dpi and they print out great on my 900. I use a canoscan N670U with scangear 3 software
The settings i use are in advanced, Colour Photo Fine, then tick "Reduce Moire" that will remove the checkered patten from larger areas of same colour.
Only ever use the epson print cd software to print covers and they are great as well.
Not bothered by small problems...

I found this and it works great in photoshop
Applying Photoshop filters to compensate for moire patterns
1. Scan at 718ppi. (You can scan at a lower resolution, if necessary, and still get satisfactory results.)
2. Apply Photoshop Median filter with 2 pixel radius (Under Filter...Noise menu).
3. Reduce Resolution to appropriate setting.
4. Apply Unsharp Mask (under Filter...Sharpen menu) and enter by Amount "50%", Radius "3" pixels, and Threshold "5" or above
before and after picts

To be honest there is little point scanning at more than 300 Dpi and the most disks dont take a lot of ink too well so you arnt going to print at high res so why waste space.
Covers fine but even then i only go to 600 Dpi if pushed most are done at 300 with same settings as disk as once behind the plastic in cases you cant tell the diffrence. Not bothered by small problems...
