I have been having a lot of trouble backing-up my boxed sets... When I strip down the DVD to only the soundtracks that I like, the subtitles required and take off the extra's, I'm still getting approximately 40%-60% compression using DVD Shrink.

Once the backup copy is burned, the quality is not good at all. Quite blocky, and not impressive.

I currently use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD, then DVDShrink to encode it... RecordNowDX is my burning program.

Is there another way to backup these TV series discs that would offer more quality? Or, should I re-author them and reduce the number of episodes on each backup disc (how do I do this)?

    Any help is appreciated!

you need a software to strip titles so you can remove certain episodes

you can keep full menu's for both and just disable the buttons to the episodes you don't want

there is voblanker, titleset blanker, dvdstripper which are free to do stripping. DVDStripper is very slow but it also allows you to disable buttons. You can also use the free version of menuedit I think to disable buttons

stuff such as recode/clonedvd strip and also shrink the DVD

I have created a flash guide for DVDReMake which doesn't shrink but allows you to author the DVD. It sounds as if this is what you want to do

this episode splitting guide may give you an idea of what you would have to do

last but not least is that you could use still pictures in DVDShrink on the episodes you dont need on that DVD

all a question of finances and user needs and tastes

CloneDVD allows you to delete any part of the DVD. Four episode disks can be split two per disk with menus and full quality.
