  1. HI all

I must confess to being a complete newbie to encodeing but if anyone can tell me where I am going wrong I would be most grateful.

I have downloaded a number of movies in the form of DivX avi files and am attempting to encode them to Mpg 1/2 files to produce VCD's /SVCD's. I cant seem to get past step one, as Tmpgenc always tells me that it cant open the file or it is unsupported.

Am I missing something ? (very probably)

have you installed the DivX codecs?
all programs installed under Windows will make use of these codecs once installed.

  4. Goto the Tools section here and grab Divx4 and Kristal Studio Pack. After installing them you should be good to go.

I had downloaded the Kristal studio's codecs but ... had forgotten to install them.

Thanks for the pointers, I'll try not to be so dim in the future
