The DiVX capturing is good although only one pass encoding.
If you are included in a the "picky group" that want at least 2 pass encoding, you might want to use software encoding.

It doesn't sound bad if you're looking for a one click solution for making DivX/DVD. But, if you're worried about quality, a Canopus ADVC or DataVideo DAC for near the same price would probably be better because you can do multipass SVCD/DVD/DivX encoding after you've captured to a high quality format.

Well, personally, I went that route for several years and finally gave up...without a fast optimized system, it wasn't worth the hassles that a good quality DVD recorder gives me. I do a lot of capping for posting to usenet so quality isn't an issue so much as getting material out. No one is complaining now that I can get movies or TV series episodes into the hands of those that want them. This is all old stuff that isn't coming out on DVD or VHS tapes. Many of the old movies have no release in any format. I'd love to transfer over some of my 8mm or 16mm films but that will have to await another day...

I have never seen a Canopus ADVC for anywhere close to $217 CAD.
