I love BT. I use http://www.suprnova.org and http://www.myspleen.com mainly.
As of lately I've been using edonkey for TV Episodes. I like it a lot and was a lot easier to set up than everyone led me to believe.

That's why if I'm curious about a program/movie/song, I will use something that has more controlable security....NNTP or IRC

Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they? -
actually kazaa lite is the best p2p for music. But bittorrent is better for movies and apps and thats final cuz i said so!!
-
If you are going to use p2p, even if you have a firewall, you need
PeerGuardian imho. Low resource use, bounces otherwise nasty spy/mal ware
through open http/tcp ports.

-edit-
I use MIRC, ABC, Shareazza -
and i thought people here don't mess with DOWNLOADED stuff
DCC++ and BitSpirit here...but im behind school firewall (Squid) right now so i can't use them...damn Sys Admin
do you know any free program that can bypass firewall so i can connect my DCC++, Kazaa, BitSpirit, etchacking the Net using typewriter :D -
I am currently using:
-Azureus BitTorrent Client 2.1.0.4; definetely the fastest peer to peer application when configured correctly.
-DC++ 0.403; there are hubs for everything.
-mIRC 6.16; good for some of the new releases that everyone is trying to get ahold of. -
Will NOT sharing files in bittorent or kazaa SLOW down you downloading time or will it make it FASTER?
you can hide you real ip by using a http-tunnel program, anonymizer, etc.
im using BitComet and Kazaa Gold, MIRC 6.16hacking the Net using typewriter :D -
You do need to upload, if you cap it really low you will get terrible download speeds. Since bittorrent is known as one of the fastest peer to peer networks, I don't see a point in slowing it down by mirroring your IP. :P

I use xolox, bittornado, clean blubster, and kazaalite resurrection.
-
I use Usenet & Grabit. Both free. Grabit opens 8 connections because some newservers limit BW per connection.
-
Kazaa Lite Ressurection
can't find anymore Kazaa Lite, been clamped down i've heard.hacking the Net using typewriter :D -
Bittornado, Emule Plus, Usenet. I like Bittornado for large files, Emule for small ones. Kazaa lite was best for finding viruses to screw up my system. Bittornado has been clean so far.
-
It's not the program you should be worried about. There are so many viruses that are made to spread through peoples Kazaa shared folder, you are bound to get viruses sooner or later.
-
I agree Kazaa is virusville, so many fake files also.
I have never got a fake file or virus through edonkey -
Is edonkey better than emule? For some reason, whenever I tried downloading something from emule, it would never connect to another user and the bar would just stay blue.

any P2P program that support socks 5...

All of Mp3
One cent per Mb download, full album at 160kbs WMA will run you about $0.80 - legal site in Russia (their internet music laws fall within their radio laws), legal here in Canada, probably not legal in US.
I've been using them for a while now. They use multiple compression schemes - basically, choose your music and you decide how to compress. Then you just wait for the encoding to complete. -

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a question...I have dishnetwork, with about 60 million digital music channels. Is it still considered piracy if I capture the songs off of the TV and burn them to a music CD? For personal use but you never know, a friend might want a copy. And if it's not considered piracy, couldn't I capture them, upload them to a website and let others download them for free? -
Just my 2 cents . . .
I lurk here a lot and find this site an awesome resource and information repository. Kudos to Baldrick and the assorted experts that help us noobs. Just a month or so ago, someone posted a question about which P2P was the best in your (collective) opinion. There were the obvious ones - eMule, Kazaa Lite, eDonkey, etc, etc, but one person mentioned Bittorrent as being pretty good. So I went and found and read about and then installed it. For me it is just the kind of thing I was looking for.
You need to learn a little about how torrent files work and be willing to share but it is worth the time and effort. It is an amazing piece o' work IMHO.
To the person who mentioned the error
"problem connecting to tracker- urlopen error 10060"
that is not stopping the download, it is the most common error you will see using bittorrent. It means that the connection didn't get there on the last attempt, but it doesn't stop trying and in fact it will keep going until the download finishes. Don't worry about it, let it run. Clear the error box later and you will see the progress bar and percent downloaded number jump to indicate how much it has successfully gotten.
A couple of points:
1. You can search for .torrent files with Google and others search engines.
2. If there aren't many "seeders" (look that up in the FAQ) then you won't have much luck getting what you want.
3. After you get a download, leave it open and let others get the file(s), this is true sharing and they recommend you let it go for 24 hours.
4. It does take a bit of effort to learn how this works, but it is worth it, and I wish all P2P stuff was this well done.
5. There some Torrent only websites, with more coming all the time, Suprnova.org is my favorite (so far).
6. Bittorrent is the original prog, but a little too simple for my liking. I went and found another client called Bit Tornado that uses the same technology, but gives a better interface to the download dialog boxes, including the ability to Pause the download and tinker with all kinds of options. Highly recommended.
I hope this helps anyone out there that is looking for a new way to use P2P, I am quite happy for now, until something better comes along of course.
Peace out.
JeeDubJust because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't after you . . .

I installed BitTornado and now I have all sorts of spy and adware on my computer....
-
I'm still deleting all the crap BitTornado loaded on my computer. Use at your own risk!
-
I cant believe no one has mentioned the est torrent site on the net with over 100k hits a day.. phoenix-torrents. if i spelled it wrong google it.. also the best BT client is Azuerus java based.. but best GUI and options.
P.S. this topic is bordering on a no no :P hahahahah.
