  1. I'm trying to burn my first DVD Backup today. I'm use the "DVD-5 to one recordable DVD" guide at https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/141024.php.

I ripped the DVD fine, no problems at all. I tried to burn with DVD Decrypter, but it said something about not having exclusive access to the drive or something. So I decided to try my trial version of Nero 6. After I get into Nero and put my DVD-RW in the drive, it opens and closes several times, although the last time it only did that twice. I think the problem is that right before Nero starts burning, the DVD writer spits the DVD-RW out for some reason, and then the burn automatically fails. (I burned a VCD onto a CD-R with my DVD writer today, so I don't understand why I can't burn a DVD-RW.) Anyway, here is my log from Nero:

    2:34:33 Caching of files started
    2:34:33 Caching of files completed
(This is where it opens the disc tray)
    2:34:33 Burn process started at 2x(2,770 KB/s)
    2:35:33 DVDRW IDE1008
Disc not present - tray open

Anybody got any ideas? I read that Roxio and Nero can have conflicts, so I uninstalled the Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator that came with my writer. (I didn't like that software anyway.) This didn't seem to make any difference. Does anybody have any ideas?

    Thanks......

EDIT - I just tryed burning the DVD-RW with DVD Decrypter again, and I got a different error this time. It doesn't make any sense to me..... This time it says:
    I/O Error!

  2. I've been messing with this DVD-RW and my writer since I posted above, but I haven't had any success. I decided to open another DVD-RW from the same 3-pack that I bought to see if there was just a problem with the specific DVD-RW I was trying. When I opened the 2nd DVD-RW, I saw the inner plastic ring (the part around the hole in the middle) was cracked, so I didn't even try it.

I've been looking in the DVD Media area of this site. The DVD-RW's I have are Memorex 1x - 2x and the Media code is TDK502sakuM3. I looked this up with my burner, and there was a comment that said these "would not work at any speed with any firmware" for someone who has my exact DVD writer. Is it likely that it's just these particular DVD-RW's and if I got some other ones they would probably work? I don't want to try any DVD-R's(I have a 3-pack of Maxell) until I have a successful test with a DVD-RW or DVD+RW.
