Didnt you get any capture/edit program with the firewire card? Mine came with Ulead Videostudio Basic, so thats what i use for cap/edit, but an alternative is to use DVApp (Free) for firewire transfer/capture, Virtualdub (Also free) for editing, Besweet (Free) with VOBInput.dll for the audio conversion to Dolby Digital AC3 and then finally CCE for encoding the video to DVD. Author with Tmpgenc DVD Author (30 day free trial i think). CCE Basic cost $58, best encoder there is for DV to DVD.
But first, read a guide, Conversion menu to the left. -

Everything you need -- software, guides, etc -- to create a DVD is available in the Tools & Guides sections to the left.
There is as they say, more than one way to skin a cat.
What software are you using? Narrow it down a bit for the folks here who would help you."There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon." -- Raoul Duke -

There are indeed many ways to do what you want, and a lot of tools are available, but a good way to get your feet wet is just to use a simple program that can do it all relatively easily. I recommend Ulead VideoStudio, and you can download a trial version at ulead.com. It captures, edits, and then authors to DVD.
