  1. I have two decrypted movies on my hard drive and want to put them both onto one DVD-r.

I'm looking for a way of using the existing VOB sets and building a front end menu to select which movie to play.

So far I've tried DVD-Lab, great menu builder, but as soon as it tries to use the second set of VOBs (VTS_02_0.VOB etc..) it crashes. It only seems to work with VOB sets named VTS_01...

So then I tried TMPEGEnc DVD author but the menu builder seems to insist on having a "Play All" button on the main menu, which I don't want. I want an option to play one movie or the other - not both.

I know I can demux the VOB files to use DVD-Lab, but would this lose the subtitles? I do need to preserve the subtitles.

I have come across other DVD-rs with up to 3 movies including subtitles and a nice front end menu - but can't find out what was used.

Any suggestions of other software that imports VOB's direct and builds menus.

You can have the Play All button plus buttons to play one movie or the other. If you want it to play just one movie and then stop, put each movie on a different track and adjust the menu settings so it returns to the menu after each track.

If the Play All button still bothers you, you could shrink it really small and move it out of the TV safe area so it wouldn't show up on the screen. It'd still be there but you wouldn't see it on your TV.

Click on these links, they are from my website that has a main use of tracking down and collecting useful guides/tutorials for just what you are looking for, plus other subjects I have an interest in for tutorials

I also wrote both these guides and it may be exactly what you are looking for. Both assume you have no idea what you are doing and teach your virtually step-by-step with snapshots along the way

I tried DVD-Lab as I had a minor problem with TMPGenc DVD Author, but I've solved that occasional problem, and will also be creating yet another guide, but this time how to create single, and multiple movie or episode DVD', which should in theory replace the other guides I wrote and removing some confusion that may arise

If you have any questions, just email me and let me know

For the problem with TMPGenc DVD Author, when creating your menu, change the FirstPlay Action to show Display Main Menu

This way, when you insert the DVD, it will show the title menu that you created and wait for you to choose what movie/episode you want to play

If you want the title menu to return after each movie/episode, goto Menu Display Settings and change Action To Take After Each Track Has Played to show Display Main Menu

That should solve your problem of the DVD playing as soon as you put it in, this iis down to the default action of 'Play All Tracks'. Once you have changed this to 'Display Main Menu' that will become the default in future, unless you change it again

  6. Forget about TMPGEncDVDAuthor, It does not support subtitles.
DVDLab also doesn't support subtitles, DVDLabPro does.

But does DVD-lab Pro overcome the problems of only being able to use oine set of VOB files?

  8. I would suggest you to use dvdauthorgui or gui for dvdauthor - what you like.

  9. HuckHound,
    Try this
    https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=647#647
It's a bit complex but will allow you to have your own custom menu without any modification in the VOBs
