I just had a look at the inside of a friends PC that smokes around it all the time. Holy shit...I couldn't believe all the "dust bunnies" or whatever you call that crap that cigarettes give off. He was complaining of the PC freezing up all the time. I took off the CPU fan and the heatsink literally had about a centimeter of smoke particles/dust...it was kinda like dust but sticky and hard to clean. Not to mention that after that I looked at the power supply and couldn't even see the fan through all of that crap. So..anybody who smokes around a computer might want to clean it out or check it once in awhile.

My wife used to.....and I'm POSITIVE I would have found MAJOR gunk inside her computer but all I found were the usual dust-bunnies. The case and the majority of the inside of the computer is made up of dark material....as if someone at Dell actually color coordinated the inside as well but I'm sure the dust bunnies WERE a nasty tobacco color.
I say this because the room the computer was in has the biggest room in the flat....the paint in the room was almost a tan/beige color....then she tells me it was originally WHITE like the rest of the flat.

    YUK....scarry for a non-smoker like me.

The brown stuff is the tar residue left by the burning tobacco. Funny thing is, the same stuff coats the inside of your lungs, throat and mouth when you smoke, and it's highly toxic.

Yeah, I smoke at the computer, but only from my ******* ears when the bastard thing isn't working (or I've plugged the keyboard into the PS2 mouse port)

    No, I don't smoke

Not currently because of where I live, but yeah I did, and will again when I move.

The first thing to do is NOT put the PC right beside you, the fans will suck the smoke right inside, thats bad. 2nd is to take canned air after it every few months and also to CLEAN any build up inside the case. Replace fans as needed. Really most of these things short of wiping the inside of the case you should do on a fairly regular basis. I replace a fan at the first sign of any trouble from it.

I once worked ona computer so smoked damanaged it looked like rust red moss inside it, it was fired all to hell from build up on the heat sink, and it ws a 486!! That taught me to take care of my stuff.

Yes. All the time. I've never had a smoke-related failure and the build-up inside wasn't any worse than normal house dust. As long as you don't put out your butt on the screen or dispose of them into the CD drive, you should be safe enough. Heck, the PC will probably be upgraded long before something as slow-accumulating as smoke residue would ever factor into it

  10. Yeah I suppose I should let her off, I also have pc room and weights room as well but I would give them all up for the smallest smoking room.

Yep. I was allowed two vices, so I chose it and .....well, you know about the other one It was either that or be a drunk (alcoholism is pretty common on my dad's side) and beat my wife. So I chose something that would still let me drive to the vinyl sheep store and home safely

That point's debatable, there's an excellent section in the book Red Dwarf, lister is in an unstable vehicle and bites through his cigarette. it lands in his lap and begins smouldering through his leather trousers. fearing for his manhood he grabs a flask and pours it on his lap, hearing a satisfying hiss. then seeing the steam from the flask and then feeling the burning in his crotch! plus i see people drive with fag in one hand and phone in the other. must be changing gear with their elbow and steering with their knees!!

Used to all the time. Never had any problems because of it. The only thing is that if your tower or monitor are the white/beige, get them in the sunlight and look at what happened to them! Thr towers can be cleaned off, but not the monitor cases.

I do still smoke, but not in the house at all since before my child was born.

Maybe a dildonics upgrade was done to the PC? I'm still trying to find one I can adapt to Dolly. No luck so far ... :P

  20. I don't smoke, so my PC is nice and clean inside. When I do smoke (rare), it's normally out somewhere so it's not smelling anything up. Having said that, I do like the smell of cigars.
