Using Audacity to remove hiss from VHS captures

I'm playing around with Audacity trying to get rid of hiss/noise from analog camcorder captures. What filters& settings have you used to remove hiss/noise & clean up VHS captures? Been gussing with noise reduction & low pass filters but don't really know what parameters to use.

I've never used Audacity, but maybe it will give you a clue for settings in that software. Hope it helps.

Thanks for that - I'm trying to see what on those menu's seem analagous to the stuff on Audacity.
There's references to high & low shelf's which may to be like the high/low pass filters on Audacity. What units are the numbers in the examples for high/low shelf? Are they hz (that's the units on the Audacity menus)
The 'noise/hiss' sound I have from my captures is more of a low sound.
That's the main thing I'm trying to eliminate or reduce.

If there is a section with just the noise, you can use noise reduction to isolate the sound and then remove it from the entire clip. I have found that the wav editor that comes with Nero does a better job of this.

Tried the noise reduction. Didn't work too well for the audio file I was using. Low pass filter worked better, just trying to get a feel for the input to it - or other possible techniques. I have Nero 5.5.10.something , will look into that also.
